For the first time, Flanders' seven spearhead clusters — Biovia, De Blauwe Cluster, Catalisti, ENT.A, Flanders' FOOD, Flux50 and VIL — are jointly launching a single intercluster cSBO call, with a process designed to ensure equal access for all consortia. cSBO funds ambitious strategic basic research carried out by Flemish knowledge institutions in collaboration with industry stakeholders, aimed at breakthrough knowledge that can underpin future innovations, strengthen the competitiveness of Flemish companies and address major societal challenges. Approved projects must add significant value for several clusters and their members, taking the cluster roadmaps a step further. Timeline: info webinar on 16 September 2026, pre-proposal by 20 November 2026, communication of the pre-proposal selection on 18 December 2026, full proposal by 31 May 2027 and the final decision by VLAIO in the fourth quarter of 2027. Note how selective this is: for 2027 a maximum of two intercluster cSBO applications will be selected for full proposal development.
