The FWO's TBM programme funds the further development of therapies, diagnostic techniques and prevention methods that, because of a lack of industrial interest, would not reach the patient without public funding. Note the flip side: this is expressly NOT an instrument for companies. Only research centres such as universities, university hospitals, university colleges and strategic research centres are eligible, and a hard admissibility condition is that no industrial interest in the project exists for commercial reasons. At least 10% of the budget must go to a Flemish hospital or the ITM, and at most 20% to non-Flemish research centres. Projects run 2 to 4 years at a 100% funding rate, between EUR 215,000 and EUR 850,000, exceptionally up to EUR 1,275,000 for large or multicentre trials. The 2026 call budget was EUR 14.8 million and the 2025 call had a 29% success rate. The 2026 call opened on 19 February and closed on 23 April 2026; results follow on 26 November 2026 and approved projects start on 1 January 2027. A pre-notification with a short abstract via tbm@fwo.be is strongly recommended and is possible even before the next call opens.
